About Spectrum

A family-owned, independent eyecare clinic in Armadale.

Independent eyecare, done properly.

Spectrum Family Eyecare was founded in 2013 by Paul and Gill, a husband and wife team who relocated from the UK to bring a higher standard of personalised eyecare to Perth.

In 2026 the practice was taken over by Wendy Nguyen, who had spent her early career on a relief team covering practices right across Perth. She took Spectrum on to practise the way she thought eyecare should work.

Unlike large optical chains, we're not driven by product targets or commission structures. Every recommendation is based on what's right for you, and nothing else.

Over a decade on, we've built a loyal community across the Perth Hills and beyond, including families who travel from across WA specifically for Paul's colorimetry expertise.

Meet the team

The people behind your care.

Wendy

Wendy

Optometrist & Owner

Wendy graduated from QUT in 2021 and spent her early career on a relief team covering optometry practices right across Perth. Standing in at a lot of different clinics meant seeing how each of them ran, and forming a clear view about how she wanted to run her own.

She took over Spectrum in 2026 to practise the way she thought eyecare should work: proper time with every patient, and the same optometrist at every visit. The 30+ minute appointment is hers, and she has no intention of shortening it.

Paul

Paul

Founder & Colorimetry

Paul relocated to Perth from the UK in 2010 and opened Spectrum Family Eyecare three years later, in 2013. He began his career with an honours degree in Dispensing from Bradford University, and has spent decades in dispensing since.

His particular focus is visual stress. Paul holds advanced Cerium Colorimetry training and runs the Intuitive Colorimeter assessments here, and he is currently the only practitioner in Western Australia working at that level. Families travel from across the state to see him.

Gill

Gill

Co-founder & Operations

Gill has been in the eyecare industry for over thirty years, beginning her career in the UK. She and Paul founded Spectrum together in 2013, and she has managed the clinic alongside him ever since.

She runs the practice day to day and handles everything behind the scenes. Gill also does the eyewear repairs and dispenses prescriptions, and she is the person who will help you find frames that actually suit you.

Megan

Megan

Optical Dispenser

Megan joined Spectrum in 2017. After eleven years raising her daughters she wanted to challenge herself with a new career, and eyecare turned out to suit her.

She has kept building on it since, and is now a qualified Certificate IV Optical Dispenser. Warm, unhurried and genuinely careful with everyone who sits down with her.

Why Perth families choose us

Still a family business

Local and family-owned, and the family still works the floor. The people who run it are the same people who test your eyes and fit your frames.

30+ minutes with you

Chain stores are in and out in ten. We take thirty minutes or more, with the optometrist - long enough to check properly and to answer what you actually came in to ask.

We choose our own products

We pick the lenses and frames from any manufacturer - so what you leave with suits your eyes, your face and your budget.

Bring in the broken pair

Loose screw, bent arm, popped lens - bring it in. We do high-quality repairs, and we’d much rather fix a favourite pair than sell you a new one.

Ask us anything, honestly

How to protect your eyes at a screen all day, how to clean a lens without scratching it, what to watch for. Ask - we like talking about it.

Glasses that look like you

Cases, cords, cloths and accessories to suit your style. Glasses sit on your face all day - they may as well be ones you’re happy to be seen in.

Behind every frame, a team who cares.
