Eye examinations

You’ll know who you’re seeing.

Wendy Nguyen

Owner & Optometrist

Wendy spent her early career on a relief team covering optometry practices right across Perth - which meant seeing how a lot of different clinics run, and forming a clear view about how she wanted to run her own.

She took over Spectrum in 2026, because she wanted to practise the way she thought eyecare should work: proper time with every patient, and the same optometrist each visit.

Transparent prices. No surprises.

Chain stores offer quick 10-minute bulk-billed appointments. We spend 30+ minutes with you, and the difference shows.

Visual stress assessments

When reading is harder than it should be.

Some people find that words seem to move on the page, or that reading brings on headaches and tiredness within minutes. It often gets put down to concentration, and it often isn’t.

A visual stress assessment looks for exactly this. Where we find it, precision-tinted lenses are matched using an Intuitive Colorimeter, one of the few in Western Australia.

Common in children, and often missed.

  • Words that shimmer, wobble or run together
  • Headaches or sore eyes within minutes of reading
  • Losing your place, or re-reading the same line

Around 1 in 5 people are affected to some degree, children and adults alike.

What it can feel like

For some readers, the right colour is all it takes to hold a page still. There is no guessing which one it will be. It has to be searched for.

A page of clear, quiet text. Nothing drifting, nothing glaring. Just words that stay exactly where they were put, for as long as you need them to. Try a colour underneath and watch this paragraph change.

Currently: no tint

Seven colours here. A real assessment searches thousands to find the one that helps, if colour is going to help at all.

Dry eye treatment

Blephasteam: a warm bath for tired, dry eyes.

Burning, gritty or watery eyes are usually blocked eyelid glands, and a warm face washer rarely gets hot enough to clear them. Blephasteam does. Ten minutes of gentle, moist heat softens the blocked oil, then we express the glands.

  • 10 minutesMost people just close their eyes and relax.
  • No downtimeDrive home or head straight back to work.
  • $150 first visitIncludes your eyelid assessment. Ongoing treatments $100.

Why Perth families choose us

Still a family business

Local and family-owned, and the family still works the floor. The people who run it are the same people who test your eyes and fit your frames.

30+ minutes with you

Chain stores are in and out in ten. We take thirty minutes or more, with the optometrist - long enough to check properly and to answer what you actually came in to ask.

We choose our own products

We pick the lenses and frames from any manufacturer - so what you leave with suits your eyes, your face and your budget.

Bring in the broken pair

Loose screw, bent arm, popped lens - bring it in. We do high-quality repairs, and we’d much rather fix a favourite pair than sell you a new one.

Ask us anything, honestly

How to protect your eyes at a screen all day, how to clean a lens without scratching it, what to watch for. Ask - we like talking about it.

Glasses that look like you

Cases, cords, cloths and accessories to suit your style. Glasses sit on your face all day - they may as well be ones you’re happy to be seen in.
